Target Market Ready?

When you’re setting up a business, you need to think about the value that you will be providing. To do that, you need to establish to who your business will be catering. So, it’s very important for you to spend time thinking about your target market. Read on to learn more.

Target markets are a really usefull resource that every business owner should create and use in their PR & Marketing strategies.

Who Is Your Ideal Customer From Your Target Market?

Think of this like using lego pieces, you have a box out in front of you full of pieces that are essentially the different parts of your ideal customer’s personality. Not imagine picking out the bits you want to create your perfect customer. Not quite a reenactment of Frankenstein, but you’re almost there. It seems strange to design your ideal customer, but believe me they do exist and have friends and family that share those characteristics and preferences who will become your wider audience.

What Do They Talk Like?

Are they prim and proper or not afraid to drop an F bomb? This influences how you talk to them. Your brand voice should be in line with how you want to connect with your audience and how you want them to perceive your business.

Where Do They Live?

Are they City Slickers? Country living legends? Coastal cruisers? Where they live will inform where you market to them. It will determine your distribution strategy and the channels you use to reach your target market. There’s no point in taking out a big billboard in the city centre if they’re out in the sticks.

What Do They Listen To?

Are they Spotify, radio or podcaster lovers? Like their hobbies, you need to be where they listen to and what they watch to make sure you’re in the places they are.

What Are They Into?

Are they adrenaline junkies? Book worms? Foodies? Travel lovers? Homely creatures? This will give you an idea of where to find them when they least suspect it. If you fit your marketing into their favourite places you will soon become one of their favourites too. Use your target audience’s hobbies to reach them in a meaningful way.

What Media Do They Consume?

Read the things your audience does, watch what they watch and find ways to incorporate your brand into these areas and you’re sure to get their attention. For example, using pop culture trends and references can help you connect with your audience in a more natural way.

How Do They Use Social Media?

Are your customers super active on social media that post regularly, engage all the time and share loads of posts? Or are they lurkers, who are present on social media but hardly post? Making sure you tailor your social media presence to how your target market interacts online is key to opening the communication and developing those leads. Moreover, along with engaging with them, you will also be able to attract their friends, family and peers who have similar traits that will build your online audience.

It also goes without saying that you need to pay attention to which social media platforms they use the most and be there with them!
